The sixth edition of the world’s most used quality management standard was published on 16 September 2026. The clause numbers look familiar. Plan-Do-Check-Act is still there. Auditors will still ask for evidence.
What is not familiar is the job in front of quality leaders. ISO 9001:2026 makes quality culture and ethical behaviour something you have to demonstrate, not laminate. It splits risk from opportunity. It tightens change management. And it arrives in the same year buyers stopped treating “AI in our QMS” as a checkbox.
The organizations that treat quality management software as a digital filing cabinet will spend the next three years rewriting procedures. The organizations that treat it as quality intelligence will spend those years closing CAPAs faster, catching repeats earlier, and walking into audits with a thread from signal to signature.
